Kavala Castle

Old Town Panagia

Kamares Aqueduct
The iconic symbol of Kavala, this magnificent 60-arch Ottoman aqueduct was built in the early 16th century by Suleiman the Magnificent. Spanning the valley between the old and new town, it is one of the largest surviving aqueducts in Greece.

Imaret
Originally built in 1817 as an Islamic theological school and poorhouse by Muhammad Ali of Egypt (who was born in Kavala), the Imaret has been meticulously restored into a luxury boutique hotel. Its domed architecture and tranquil gardens are a masterpiece of Ottoman design.

Philippi Archaeological Site
Just 15 km northwest of Kavala, the ancient city of Philippi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded by Philip II of Macedon in 356 BC, it features a well-preserved Roman forum, theater, basilicas, and the site where the Apostle Paul first preached Christianity in Europe.

Thassos Island
